MUSIC INSPIRED BY
JUSTICE, HUMANITY & HOPE
For more than 30 years, Alan Schorr has fought for justice in the courtroom and expressed humanity through music.
The Story
THE SONGWRITER
Alan began writing songs at just 13 years old after studying under legendary contemporary Jewish musician Debbie Friedman while growing up at Temple Emanu-El in Willingboro, New Jersey. Her groundbreaking approach to combining meaningful themes with contemporary musical styles inspired Alan to see music not only as entertainment, but as a way to connect people, inspire thought, and create change.
That inspiration led to A Joyful Shabbat Noise, Alan’s long-running musical project that reimagines traditional Jewish prayers through modern genres including blues, jazz, and rock. Performed at synagogues throughout the region for nearly two decades, the project reflected Alan’s belief that music should feel emotionally immediate, accessible, and alive.
THE ADVOCATE
For more than 30 years, Alan Schorr has fought for justice in courtrooms across New Jersey as a respected civil rights attorney representing individuals facing discrimination, harassment, and injustice.
The people, cases, and experiences from his legal career have deeply inspired the songs of One Voice, turning real stories into music that speaks to dignity, equality, and the power of one voice.
Today, through Alan Schorr Music, these two lifelong passions of advocacy and music come together in a body of work that blends storytelling, social justice, humanity, and hope through original music and live performance.
